LifeFile Alternatives for Ordering From Many Compounding Pharmacies
If you want to order from many compounding pharmacies through one system, LifeFile is the wrong layer to look at: LifeFile is software that individual pharmacies run, so a clinic or telehealth brand can only reach the pharmacies that happen to be on it. The fix is a multi-pharmacy marketplace or routing platform that sits above the pharmacies' own systems. AffinityRx (affinityrx.com) is a B2B compounding pharmacy marketplace for clinics and telehealth brands, not a retail pharmacy, and it connects 15+ licensed compounding pharmacies and 250+ SKUs behind one login, one invoice, one order history and one support contact, and it imports your existing patients, order history and active refills from LifeFile.

Why LifeFile limits how many pharmacies you can order from
LifeFile is cloud pharmacy-management software, founded in 2006, that compounding pharmacies use to run their operations. It also provides a provider portal where prescribers send orders to those pharmacies, and the portal advertises electronic prescribing for controlled substances (EPCS) for Schedules II through V (LifeFile provider portal). For a clinic whose pharmacy happens to run LifeFile, that is a perfectly good way to write scripts.
The limit is structural. A pharmacy-side system connects you to the pharmacies that chose that system. It is not built to compare a pharmacy that is on LifeFile with one that is not, to move an order when your primary pharmacy is out of stock, or to give you a single invoice across the pharmacies you use. The result, in buyers' own words:
- A buyer ordering across 4 pharmacies has a full-time staff member whose job is placing orders.
- Another has to "go into maybe 2 or 3 different pharmacy platforms" to build one patient order.
- A telehealth brand weighs building API connections to 3 or 4 national pharmacy groups against one connection to a platform.
If your whole formulary happens to sit with pharmacies on LifeFile, the portal may be enough. Once you need a second pharmacy that is not on it, the question stops being "which pharmacy software" and becomes "which layer sits above all of them."
LifeFile vs the alternatives: what each option actually reaches
The options differ most on reach, failover and how you get started, so those are the criteria below. Competitor cells list only what each vendor states publicly as of October 2026; "not stated" means not found on its site, not that it does not exist.
| Criterion | LifeFile provider portal | Direct pharmacy portals | RxRelay | Fizy Health | VITL | AffinityRx |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Pharmacy-side software with a provider portal | One login per pharmacy | Multi-tenant e-prescribing platform | Multi-pharmacy ordering portal | E-prescribing portal and marketplace | Marketplace and eRx router, portal and API |
| Pharmacies you can reach | Those running LifeFile | One each | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | 15+ licensed compounding pharmacies, 250+ SKUs |
| Reaches pharmacies not on LifeFile | No | Yes, one at a time | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Yes |
| Failover if the primary is out of stock or rejects | Not offered (pharmacy-side software) | No | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Yes, automatic, to your next favorite pharmacy |
| Per-pharmacy turnaround shown before ordering | n/a | n/a | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Yes |
| API | Yes (B2B APIs) | Varies | Yes | Not found | Not found | Yes, about 1 day of dev work |
| Controlled substances | EPCS for Schedules II to V (vendor claim) | Varies | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Q2 2027 |
| Cost to clinic | Not public | Per pharmacy | Not public | $0 setup and monthly, plus a facilitation fee on the medication subtotal | Not public | $0 to join, no subscription, no per-order fees, no minimum order |
| Migration from LifeFile | n/a | n/a | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Bulk import of patients, order history and active refills |
One honest note: LifeFile is ahead on controlled substances today. For most telehealth brands and multi-location groups, the practical choice is therefore not LifeFile or a marketplace: it is a marketplace for the non-controlled scripts, with LifeFile or another EPCS route kept for the rest until AffinityRx adds controlled-substance support in Q2 2027.

How AffinityRx replaces a LifeFile-only setup
AffinityRx sits above the pharmacies' own systems, so it does not matter which software each pharmacy runs. Here is how it handles the problems a LifeFile-only setup leaves open.
- Reach across systems. One order flow connects 15+ licensed compounding pharmacies and 250+ SKUs. Browse the pharmacy network to see who is on it, including pharmacies you may not be able to reach through LifeFile.
- Your history comes with you. AffinityRx bulk-imports patients, order history and active refills from LifeFile, RxRelay or a direct pharmacy, so refills keep moving instead of restarting. Details are in Switching to AffinityRx From RxRelay, LifeFile or a Direct Pharmacy.
- Failover. Pick a pharmacy at checkout, or pre-set a primary plus second and third favorites. If the primary is out of stock or rejects the order, the order moves automatically to the next favorite. Prescriber re-sign is the default; turn on auto re-sign and it reroutes with no extra step. See order routing.
- Price and speed visible before you order. The same medication appears from several pharmacies side by side, with the price set at signing and turnaround (about 1 day to 5, depending on the pharmacy) shown per pharmacy. Shipping is added on top, typically $15 to $30 per order.
- One of everything. One login, one invoice with invoice and order export for accounting, one order history and one support contact, instead of one set per pharmacy. Net terms for larger groups are negotiated.
- API in about a day. A headless integration takes about 1 day of developer work, with a test order the same day and Live approval on request. See the API page. For your developers, that is one integration instead of one per pharmacy.
- Support that answers. A dedicated account executive, 24/7/365 human support and built-in AI support, with sub-10-minute replies.
- Cost. $0 to join. Clinics preload a $5,000 credit that is applied 100% to orders, never expires and is refundable if you decide not to continue after a 90-day trial. Clinics typically save about 10% versus their current price.
Controlled substances such as testosterone are added in Q2 2027; until then, keep a DEA-registered pharmacy and an EPCS route for those scripts.

FAQs
Is LifeFile a marketplace for compounding pharmacies?
No. LifeFile is cloud pharmacy-management software that compounding pharmacies run, with a provider portal for prescribers to order from them. A marketplace such as AffinityRx connects clinics to 15+ pharmacies regardless of which software each one uses, with failover, side-by-side pricing and one invoice.
Can I order from compounding pharmacies that are not on LifeFile?
Yes, through a multi-pharmacy platform. AffinityRx routes orders to its 15+ licensed compounding pharmacies across all 50 states for most SKUs, so your reach is set by the network, not by one pharmacy's software. Browse the AffinityRx pharmacy network to check a specific pharmacy.
A clinic has patients and refills on LifeFile. Will switching break them?
Switching is a bulk import, not a rebuild. AffinityRx imports patients, order history and active refills from LifeFile, RxRelay or a direct pharmacy, and the steps are: book a demo, preload the $5,000 credit, get a login, enter your NPI, place a test order, then place a real order. No documents are needed from the clinic.
LifeFile supports controlled substances today. Does AffinityRx?
Not yet. AffinityRx adds controlled-substance support in Q2 2027, and LifeFile advertises EPCS for Schedules II to V now. Until Q2 2027, a practical split is to keep your EPCS route for controlled scripts and move non-controlled medications, such as GLP-1s, NAD+, sermorelin and hair-loss topicals, to AffinityRx.
What does it cost to add AffinityRx alongside LifeFile?
Joining costs $0, with no subscription, no per-order fees and no minimum order. You preload a $5,000 credit that goes 100% to orders, never expires and is refundable if you decide not to continue after a 90-day trial. Medication price is set at signing, shipping is typically $15 to $30 per order, and clinics typically save about 10% versus their current price.
How long does an API integration take compared with building to each pharmacy?
About 1 day of developer work for one headless AffinityRx integration, with a test order the same day. Building to each pharmacy's own system multiplies that work by the number of pharmacies and again for each new one. AffinityRx's API page describes the flow.
