Low Semaglutide Quotes Using Salt Forms: A Red Flag Before You Buy
A semaglutide quote that comes in far below the rest of the market sometimes gets there by using semaglutide sodium or semaglutide acetate, salt forms the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it is "not aware of any lawful basis" to use in compounding. The safer way to a lower semaglutide price is a multi-pharmacy platform where vetted pharmacies quote the same medication side by side. AffinityRx is that platform for telehealth brands: it vets pharmacies on compliance, product, track record, market feedback and operations, and clinics still typically save about 10% versus their current price.

Why a very low semaglutide quote should make you stop
A quote is a price plus assumptions you cannot see. For compounded semaglutide, the one that matters most is which active ingredient is in the vial.
As of October 2026, FDA's page on unapproved GLP-1 drugs states that semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate "are different active ingredients than are used in the approved drugs," that FDA has no information on whether these salts share the properties of the approved active ingredient, and that "we are not aware of any lawful basis for their use in compounding." FDA also has an import alert, Import Alert 66-80, aimed at GLP-1 active pharmaceutical ingredients with potential quality concerns; it does not stop legal imports from compliant manufacturers.
For a telehealth brand, two costs follow a quote like that:
- Supply risk. If the pharmacy behind the lowest quote is pulled from a state or stops shipping, the price disappears with the supply, and your patients are waiting.
- A false benchmark. Once a salt-form quote sets your target, every vetted quote looks expensive.
Across 13 semaglutide and tirzepatide SKUs on AffinityRx, the lowest pharmacy price averaged 9.8% below the median price among pharmacies quoting that SKU, and the most expensive pharmacy was 13.5% to 100% above the lowest (3 or more pharmacies per SKU; pricing as of October 1, 2026). A quote far below that range is the one to question before you buy.
Salt-form quote versus vetted comparison: what you are actually buying
The table compares three ways a telehealth brand ends up with a low semaglutide price, on the criteria that decide whether the price survives contact with FDA, a recall or a busy week.
| Criterion | Lowest quote from an unvetted source | One trusted pharmacy, no comparison | AffinityRx |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active ingredient | May be a salt form you have to catch yourself on the certificate of analysis (COA) | One pharmacy to ask | Vetting reviews third-party COAs as part of the product check |
| Vetting | Yours to do, per supplier | Yours to do, for one pharmacy | Done for you across compliance, product, track record, market feedback and operations |
| FDA warning letter or recall | You find out on your own | You find out on your own | AffinityRx notifies clinics and updates the pharmacy profile; clinics can switch that pharmacy off in their portal |
| Price discovery | One number | One number | Same medication from several pharmacies side by side, prices shown before ordering |
| If the supplier stops | Orders stop | Orders stop | Order moves automatically to your next favorite pharmacy |
| Price terms | Quote only | List price | Price set at signing |
| Cost to join | No cost, no protection | No cost to compare | $0, no subscription, no per-order fees, no minimum order |
How AffinityRx solves the low-quote problem: a lower semaglutide price without the salt-form risk
AffinityRx is a multi-pharmacy router with an API: one integration reaches 10+ licensed compounding pharmacies and 250+ SKUs, including compounded semaglutide.
- Vetting is done for you. Compliance (state licensures, USP <795>/<797>/<800>, LegitScript, PCAB, ACHC and NABP certifications), product (third-party COAs, sterility and endotoxin testing, beyond-use dates), track record (Form 483s, recalls, FDA actions, pharmacist-in-charge background), market feedback and operations. The compliance vetting page lays out the method.
- Price comes from competition. The same medication from several pharmacies is shown side by side, so the lowest vetted price is visible before you order. Clinics typically save about 10% versus their current price, and the price is set at signing: what you see is what you pay for the medication.
- FDA actions reach you. If a pharmacy receives an FDA warning letter or recall, AffinityRx notifies clinics and adds it to the pharmacy profile. The current record is on the FDA actions page.
- A pulled supplier does not stop orders. Set a primary pharmacy plus second and third favorites. If the primary is out of stock or rejects an order, the order moves automatically to the next favorite. The prescriber reviews and signs the order for the new pharmacy before it is sent.
- $0 to join. No subscription, no per-order fees and no minimum order. Shipping is added on top, typically $15 to $30 per order.
Pricing, pharmacies and FDA status for the drug are on the semaglutide page.

FAQs
Is semaglutide sodium or acetate OK to order from a compounding pharmacy?
FDA says semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate are different active ingredients than those in approved semaglutide drugs, and that it is not aware of any lawful basis for their use in compounding. Ask for the COA and require that the active ingredient is named as semaglutide. AffinityRx vets the pharmacies on its platform, including third-party COAs.
Why is one pharmacy's semaglutide quote so much lower than the others?
It can be a real volume price, or it can reflect a different active ingredient. Real comparisons are narrow: across 13 semaglutide and tirzepatide SKUs on AffinityRx, the lowest price averaged 9.8% below the median. A quote far outside that range deserves a COA request first.
Will vetted pharmacies cost me more than the lowest quote I found?
The lowest quote only counts if it survives an FDA action or a recall. On AffinityRx you see the same medication from several vetted pharmacies side by side before ordering, and clinics typically save about 10% versus their current price.
A clinic already has a pharmacy for semaglutide. Why add a platform?
A platform keeps your pharmacy as the primary and adds a second and third favorite behind it. If the primary runs out or rejects an order, AffinityRx moves the order to the next favorite automatically, and you can compare prices at any time. It is $0 to join, with no subscription and no per-order fees.
Is it risky to switch if my subscriptions are already running?
AffinityRx supports bulk import of patients, order history and active refills from your current pharmacy system or a direct pharmacy. You place a test order before a real one, and a dedicated account executive and 24/7/365 human support handle the move.
